Hey y'all,

Today is going to be a fun one because I will be taking you through my puff puff recipe. As much as most people love this snack, many don’t make it because they either believe its stressful or expensive to make. Well guess what guys, it is CHEAP & EASY. When having friends around, this snack will definitely save you the stress of making a large spread. Just add cold bottles of malt and you’re golden.

***This recipe serves ten people

To prepare Puff-Puff, you'll need the following.

1kg of flour

500g of sugar

A packet of yeast

2 tablespoons of cinnamon

1 tablespoon of ground nutmeg

1 litre of sunflower oil


Yeast Activation

Yeast comes in various forms: powder, pebbles, paste etc. I usually use the pebbles as they give me more value for money. For this type of yeast, mix it with lukewarm water and set it aside for when you’re mixing the rest of the ingredients.

Alternatively, for the powdered yeast, just add it to the mix like you do the other dry ingredients.

Puff-Puff Mix

Put the flour in a bowl, add the ground nutmeg, activated yeast, sugar (as desired), and cinnamon. Mix all these together.

After this, begin to add lukewarm water to the mix until all the ingredients have mixed properly. The lukewarm water will make your mixture rise faster and better.

Try to make a nice smooth mixture consistency. Make the mixture thicker than pancake batter as it will rise and get softer.

When done, cover the mixture with foil or cling film. For better results also cover the foil covered bowl with a dish cloth, making sure that there are no holes.

Leave the mixture to rise for 1 hour then fry in 1 litre of oil as illustrated in the puff-puff video. You can find this in the video tab.

To get the best results, make sure the oil is between 3-4 inches deep.

When one side is light brown, flip the other side to get an even texture on both sides. Keep flipping until both sides are golden brown.

Once done, remove the puff-puff from the oil and set aside to cool.

The use of paper towels will also help drain the oil from the puff-puff as much as possible.

Serve with the beverage of your choice. I would personally suggest a nice bottle of cold malt.
